Consider updating the licence when your permanent or correspondence address changes and the new address should be reflected in the transport record.
Use the address you can support with the proof requested by the authority. Do not enter a temporary address simply because it is convenient if you cannot document it.
If you are moving to another state, check the state/RTO instructions carefully. An address change and a transfer/other licence service are not always the same administrative step.
Form 2 is the central application form for change/correction of address in a driving licence.
The exact proof of address is determined by the applicable authority and the current online service. Commonly accepted proofs can include government-issued address documents, but do not assume a particular document will be accepted without checking the portal.
Keep your existing DL and a clear copy of your address proof ready. If the portal asks for additional documents, use the list it provides.
Open the official Sarathi portal.
Select the state that issued your driving licence.
Choose the relevant driving-licence service for change/correction of address.
Enter your DL and personal details exactly as they appear in the existing record.
Enter the new address carefully. Check house number, locality, district, state and PIN code before submitting.
Upload the proof requested by the portal, pay the applicable official fee if shown, and complete any appointment/verification step.
Save the application number and receipt.
Changing your address is a record update, while moving between states can involve additional administrative considerations. The safest approach is to start with the issuing state's Sarathi service and follow the instructions shown after you select the relevant state.
Do not assume that simply selecting a new state on an online form transfers your entire DL record. If Sarathi tells you to visit an RTO or obtain another document, follow that instruction.
Check the updated licence record through the official services available to you.
If you use DigiLocker, fetch or view the issued DL again after the underlying record has been updated.
Keep the application receipt until the new information is confirmed.
