Driving licence not showing in DigiLocker? Here's what to check.

If your driving licence is missing from DigiLocker, the problem is usually a mismatch or an issue with the licence record being available in the National Register. This guide walks you through the checks in plain language.

DL HELP

Simple, practical guidance for Indian driving-licence services. We are an independent website; applications and official records are handled by government portals.

Before you start: DigiLocker does not create a new driving licence record. It fetches an issued digital document from the government data source. DigiLocker says its driving-licence integration is connected to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' National Register, so a licence that is not available in that source may not be fetchable in DigiLocker.

Information on this page is based on current guidance published by DigiLocker and Parivahan Sewa. State/RTO workflows, document lists and fees can change, so always follow the instructions shown on the official portal.

The quickest way to diagnose the problem

First, check the licence number carefully. Use the number printed on your driving licence and avoid adding extra spaces or punctuation unless the official form specifically asks for them.

Next, check whether your driving licence record is visible through the Parivahan driving-licence status service. DigiLocker itself recommends checking the Parivahan record when a DL cannot be fetched.

Finally, compare the name and date of birth on your Aadhaar with the details held against your driving licence. DigiLocker uses matching information when it fetches the document, and its FAQ specifically notes that the Aadhaar name should match the DL/RC record.

Common reasons your e-DL is not appearing

Your DL record may not yet be available in the National Register. DigiLocker explains that it cannot fetch a driving licence if the record does not exist in that source.

Your name may be different between Aadhaar and the driving-licence record. Even a difference in the way your full name is written can cause a fetch to fail.

Your date of birth or licence number may have been entered incorrectly. Re-enter the details rather than repeatedly submitting the same combination.

Your licence may be an older record that has not been digitised or migrated correctly. In that situation, the issuing RTO may need to help with the record.

Sometimes the issue is temporary. DigiLocker also documents temporary service-side problems with Aadhaar-related services, so retrying later can be reasonable if the details are definitely correct.

Step-by-step: try this before visiting an RTO

Sign in to your existing DigiLocker account. If you already have an Aadhaar-linked account, use that account rather than creating multiple accounts.

Open the document search/fetch area and choose the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways driving-licence service.

Enter the DL number exactly as requested. Make sure the name shown from Aadhaar is the name you expect to match against the licence.

If DigiLocker says the details do not match issuer data, stop changing random fields. Recheck your DL number, name and date of birth against the original documents. DigiLocker says this error can mean that the details entered do not match the issuer data.

If the details are correct but no record is available, check the DL through Parivahan. If the licence also cannot be found there, the issue is more likely to be with the underlying licence record than with your DigiLocker account.

What if Parivahan also cannot find the licence?

If the licence is missing from both DigiLocker and the Parivahan record-checking service, contact the RTO that issued the licence. Take your physical licence if you have it, plus another identity/address document if the office asks for one.

Do not use unofficial websites that ask you to upload your Aadhaar, driving licence or OTP just to 'recover' an e-DL. Your licence is an official government record and the actual fetch should happen through the government systems.

If the physical licence is available and the details are correct, ask the RTO whether the record needs correction, digitisation or migration. The exact route can vary by state and the age of the licence.

If the problem is a name or date-of-birth mismatch

Do not try to solve an RTO data error by changing random details inside DigiLocker. DigiLocker states that your Aadhaar profile information is fetched from UIDAI and that you cannot simply edit it to something different from Aadhaar.

If the Aadhaar information itself is wrong, the correction has to be made with UIDAI. If Aadhaar is correct but the driving-licence record is wrong, the correction needs to be handled through the appropriate transport/RTO process.

Once the underlying records agree, return to DigiLocker and try fetching the driving licence again.

We explain the process here, but your licence record, application and payment should be handled on the official systems.

FAQ

Questions people commonly ask

Why is my driving licence not showing in DigiLocker?
The record may not be available in the National Register, or the details you entered may not match the issuer record. DigiLocker recommends checking the licence details and the Parivahan record when a fetch fails.
My name is correct on Aadhaar but DigiLocker still cannot fetch my DL. What should I do?
Check the DL number and date of birth, then verify that the licence itself is available through Parivahan. If the government record is unavailable or incorrect, the issuing RTO may need to correct it.
Can I upload a photo/PDF of my old DL to make DigiLocker show it as an issued document?
No. An uploaded file and an issued government document are different things in DigiLocker. Issued documents come from integrated government issuers; an uploaded copy does not turn into an issued DL.
Is a DigiLocker driving licence valid?
DigiLocker states that issued documents are legally equivalent to physical originals, and its FAQ specifically describes the MoRTH digital DL as legally recognised when presented through the issued-documents section.
